Google may have a rocky relationship with news organizations, but not with the Associated Press in particular. In a recent blog post, it was announced that the licensing agreement between Google and AP has been renewed.
Josh Cohen, Senior Business Product Manager for Google made the brief announcement:
We’ve extended our existing licensing agreement with the Associated Press that permits us to host its content on Google properties such as Google News. We look forward to future collaborations, including on ways Google and AP can work together to create a better user experience and new revenue opportunities.
Publishers are torn between syndicating content with Google News or not. Some regard the traffic from Google to be valuable. Others think the web search giant is making a big profits off their content, especially now that newsprint circulation are on a decline with more and more people accessing news via the internet.
Details about the extended licensing deal between AP and Google such as value, length and other stipulations regarding how content will be used by the latter have not yet been made available.
